Tips For What To Do If Your Computer Breaks Down In College

By Darrel Jefferson

People tend to like hybrids. Hybrid anything. Hybrid cars, hybrid animals, hybrid classes. Taking the best of two worlds and putting them together - that's what people like. (Of course, not everybody - but enough!) Hybrid classes are growing in popularity as schools integrate traditional classes and online classes. While some might consider most traditional classes to now be hybrid classes (due to online course materials, grade books, class blogs, etc.), this article will focus on more clear hybrid classes - those that reduce classroom time and add in online coursework.

The common goal: get ahead in life. I'll touch on these topics as well, in case you never heard them before, but I'd rather devote most of my space towards experiencing an enjoyable and fulfilling college career.

So let's get the strategy out of the way. Networking - do it! Build good relationships with your professors, upperclassmen, and other classmates. You should also try to get an internship, or even two. These also are incredible opportunities to network and they will help you gain actual work experience, which is vital in today's hiring market - especially in Business Administration and New Media Marketing. Do informational interviews, job shadow, volunteer, and join student societies.

One of the main goals of hybrid classes is to free up classroom time for lecture and discussion while accomplishing more "mundane" tasks like quizzes and tests online. The online aspect also helps students access a wider variety of learning resources like videos, graphics, interactive programs, chats, and so on. Hopefully, the combination of these two will allow students to develop as a class and as individuals. Especially considering that students have different learning styles and preferences, this hybrid system should help a greater number of students learn more effectively.

Many university libraries offer computers for on campus use. These computers have all of the programs necessary for college students. Specific schools within your university may also have computers for students to use, so feel free to look into computer labs in your department. These computers can be a life saver after computer crashes, so take advantage of it!

If you want to both succeed in college and enjoy your time there, remember the following. Pick a major that you actually enjoy. Don't chose majors based only on the job market. You will succeed in a major whose classes you naturally enjoy. Because when you enjoy what you are learning, you won't skip classes, you'll do your homework, you'll remember what you learned, and you will be motivated to succeed by your own feelings, not outside pressures.

Hybrid classes also help students prepare for more online-oriented systems of school and work. As the world continues to shift from physical to online, students need to learn to adjust to online systems. Online classes and workplaces require self-motivation, organization, and a certain level of computer skills. Hybrid classes are a great bridge for students to build these important skills.

Most people that rush through college regret it. They regret not building strong relationships with professors and classmates. They regret overloading their schedules, sacrificing small everyday pleasures. They regret not going on a study abroad. They regret having no memories apart from late night Accounting homework. They regret sacrificing quality for speed. In sum, they regret not taking the time to enjoy college. Don't let this happen to you. Prepare yourself now to succeed AND enjoy your time as a student!
